A whistleblower has revealed an official investigation that British authorities failed to secure classified equipment allowing the militant group to locate Afghans that had served with allied troops.

Information Leak Puts Thousands in Danger

Person A, identified as Person A, explained that Afghans affected by the data leak were advised to relocate and switch their contact details to ensure their safety from the ruling authorities.

MPs are looking into the UK government's management of a serious breach of private information concerning almost nineteen thousand individuals who had applied to relocate to Britain to flee militant rule.

The Information Breach Was Discovered

An electronic document with confidential details, comprising names, addresses and occasionally family information, was mistakenly released by an official employed at British military command in last year.

The breach came to light only in August 2023, when details of nine people who had applied to relocate to the UK surfaced on social media.

Taliban Capabilities

Many believe there's a misunderstanding that Afghan rulers lack the same sort of facilities that we have,” she told lawmakers.

Initial findings presented to the committee indicated that at least 49 relatives and co-workers of people concerned by the breach had been executed.

A gag order concerning the incident was implemented in last year and prevented all details regarding the matter from being made public until July 2025.

Safety Measures

“We advised that they change residence where feasible and changed their contact details. That constituted the crucial data that, if authorities acquired this information, would cause their location being found,” Person A explained.

Challenged Assessments

The source contested that internal investigation carried out by a former official had been wrong to determine that the possession of the records by militant forces was “minimally impact present danger”.

“The important fact is that affected people are in hiding from the Taliban; they remain concealed. Everything boils down to former occupations.”

The source explained disturbing violence endured by at-risk Afghans, involving electric shock torture, waterboarding, and violent assaults.

“There are cases of young kids who have had bones crushed to force relatives to disclose hiding places,” Person A stated.
