Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got significant support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
