Grief as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before escaping on foot.

The purpose of the shooting remains unclear and no arrests are in custody, according to authorities.

Details of the Attack

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building managing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," authorities said.

Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," added an official.

His family member, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.

"Words fail me. I am shattered," she stated.
"It is clear he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were ready to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."

She urged the citizens to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the scene, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.
