Massive Hype However a Significant Wager: Battlefield 6 Takes Aim At The CoD Franchise
"A Fresh Contender Has Emerged."
Across the fiercely contested world of gaming, it's common for emerging rivals to disappear as quickly as they enter the stage.
Yet this new installment is striving to shift that dynamic.
It's the most recent addition in a established warfare game line often described as a more realistic answer to its main competitor.
The franchise has not quite been able to match its best-known opponent in terms of revenue or players, but there are signs the recent entry could close the gap.
A preview session giving players a chance to test the release in recent months set new benchmarks, and the buzz leading up to its release has been massive.
Yet the project is still a significant gamble for publisher Electronic Arts, which has allegedly invested huge sums of money developing it.
Reporters have talked to some of the creators to learn how they expect it will succeed.
Production Crew and Developer Collaboration
Four development houses were creating the title under the unified development banner.
Among them are long-time creator the Swedish studio, located in Europe, Los Angeles-based Motive team and Ripple Effect in Canada.
One more, the UK studio, is located in Guildford.
Rebecka Coutaz is the general manager of the two continental developers, and shares with us that, in respect of what it's providing players, "Battlefield 6 is likely unmatched."
Learning From Previous Mistakes
This title arrives after the heels of the futuristic Battlefield 2042, published previously to a negative feedback it found it hard to recover from.
"We probably would not be able to make and develop this new game absent the lessons we had in the last release," Rebecka tells us.
Among those lessons was to involve fans engaged from the start, and the studio started closed community playtests earlier this year.
The "reaction was explosively encouraging," says the manager.
Another absent ingredient from the last game was a story mode, which has been brought back for this release.
The Guildford team creative lead Fasahat "Fas" Salim is the person in charge of "ensuring those stages are as fun and interesting as possible for the players."
Despite allegations that the scope of the project had created pressure for the various developers partnering across continents to develop the project, the director is upbeat about the work.
"Partnering with diverse cultures, distinct heritages, it's a truly fascinating setting to be involved in every day," he shares.
"The complete strategy has been something new but something truly inspiring because we are collaborating with people from around the globe."
Regarding the expectation on the team, the director comments: "We feel pressure but at the same time it's motivating.
"It's a big venture. It's arguably the largest that the majority of the team have ever worked on."
New Artist Brings Innovative Insight
This is absolutely true of no less than one developer, lighting artist Vlad.
The 21-year-old makes the atmospheric effects that shape the atmosphere, tone, and focus of the single-player campaign.
He undertook an work placement at the studio before getting a position there, and presently is employed on a part-time basis while finishing his VFX qualification at Bournemouth University.
The developer explains he's a long-standing supporter of the games, and remembers playing the fourth instalment of the franchise at a pal's home when he was in his youth.
Working on it currently, as his initial career position, "is hard to believe as actual."
"It's truly incredible seeing the advertising all around," he shares.
"To know that I've put my individual work into the project is really surreal."
