The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit series coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
